Nominated for 7 Academy Awards® -- winning 3 Oscars,
including Best Actor Robert Benigni,
Best Original Dramatic Score,
and Best Foreign Language Film
was presented in Italian with English subtitles

special guest speaker
Professor Felice Beneduce
spoke about the uproar that the film created in Italy,
and how Italians hid tens of thousands of Jews
and helped them emigrate to other countries
to escape certain death.

Columbus Day Weekend 2006

Fieri Providence entered their replica of the Santa Maria
 in three parades in two days on October 8 and 9, 2006. Members dressed as Italian historical figures on the float.

  • Columbus - representing the explorers - Ken DiBattista
  • Pavarotti - representing music - Armando Bisceglia
  • Leonardo Da Vinci - representing art & science - Gino Milano
  • Mona Lisa - also representing art - Lisa DiNanno / Cristina Mansella
  • Marco Materazzi (from the Italian World Cup soccer team) - representing sports - Rich Volpe
  • Roberto Benigni - representing cinema - Sam Brusco

Fieri Providence had the only Chistopher Columbus in Westerly, Newport, and on Federal Hill in Providence.
